Between sisters – teaching, sociability and urban space (Santa Catarina, half of the 20th century)

Abstract

This article deals with teaching trajectories mapping focused on two pairs of sisters - Antonieta and Leonor de Barros and Edésia and Iracema Aducci - in Santa Catarina's capital throughout the first half of the 20th century. To this end, he took as sources the “Termos de Assentamento do Tesouro do Estado” as available in the Public Archive of Santa Catarina, and the notes and reports linked to the local press, available in the Digital Library of the National Library. The documentary series allowed the knowledge of their functional displacements, as well as their affective and social transits, to be tracked. As a theoretical reference, the considerations of Michel de Certeau were applied, regarding the operability and categorization of practices, and Jean François Sirinelli, regarding the density of the support and sociability networks that supported the tactics of the sisters. The methodology applied considered the organization of documentary series composed of records based on the names of the women above-mentioned and considering the density of the use of digitized sources in historical research. Finally, it highlighted the diversity of trajectories that make up the teaching career and how this diversity triggered distinct tactics for permanence in the profession.
